columbus found an island in the bahamas
he was sure he had found
the far east he so sorely wished it
when he found cuba
he knew he was close to the island of japan
for the rest of his life
he was convinced he had found the indies
his only regret was
he hadn't enough lifetime to get to the capital
of china and the empire
stuffed with incalculable spices and gold
to be converted or overthrown
in the name of this crossed christian god
seas of time rolled
and the new world was cultivated
